It all started out with the shape…and got a little carried away with the yarn, as always me messing around.
This pattern can be a template for any sweaters/tops you would like to knit using this shape. You can have fun with all kinds of yarn. You can fade, you can stripe or knit a solid.
To knit a fade or to knit a solid? That’s tough. You may just have to make 2, ha ha.
Sleeves or no sleeves? Summer or winter knits?
You can also choose to wear it backwards…yup it’s that versatile.
It all works. Get your imagination running and make it yours.
Sizes:
A, (B, C, D, E, F) or bust finished measurements: 36, (40, 44, 48, 52, 56) in; 91, (102, 112, 123, 132, 140) cm
Worn with ease. You pick how much ease you like. As pictured on a model with 36 in bust in size B.
Gauge:
As the pattern is both knitted in the round and knitted flat, both options for swatching is provided. You should have same gauge in both, knitted flat and in the round.
Seed stitch in the round: Seed stitch flat:
Rnd 1: K1, p1. RS: * K1, p1. *
Rnd 2: P1, k1. WS: K1, p1.
Alternate knit and purl sts.
4in/10 cm blocked swatch 20sts/ 30rows knitted using the US 6 (4.0mm) needles. Make sure you block your swatch; the seed stitch pattern tends to grow width wise.
Adjust needle size as needed to achieve gauge.
Yarn:
Approx. 5, (5, 6, 6, 7, 7) skeins of Malabrigo Dos Tierras or other DK weight yarn.
Malabrigo Dos Tierras: DK, 4 ply, 210 yards (193 m), 100g per skein.
50% Merino Wool, 50% Baby Alpaca
I recommend exploring various Indie dyers and purchasing their fabulous fade sets.
Modification affect usage, as well as using different gauge.
Notions:
• Size 6 US (4mm) needles, preferably circulars with interchangeable cord,
• 2 Stitch holders, or spare yarn,
• 5 stitch markers, one of different colour to denote BOR, others to denote certain sections.
• Darning needle,
• Blocking materials, recommended blocking mat.
Skills required:
• Knit and purl stitches, decreases k2tog, ssk.
• Picking up stitches along an edge,
• Making a new stitch leaning to the left and making a new stitch leaning to the right,
• German short rows,
• Mitered 1x1 rib for neck finishing,
• Long tail CO,
• 3 needle BO.
Notes about construction:
Pullover is knitted bottom up. Starting knitted in the round. Once desired length is reached, remainder of the sweater is knitted flat. Front is finished first, and shoulder sts are held for later attachment. Back is finished last. Short row shaping is added to aid in fit of the shoulders.
Shoulders front and back are seamed together using the 3 needle BO. Stitches are picked up along the armhole opening for sleeves. Sleeves have shaping.
Neck is finished with a mitered 1x1 rib. Sleeves are finished with a 1x1 rib.
